Passport Application Requirements

The requirements for applying for a Kenyan passport can vary depending on whether you are applying for a new passport, a renewal, or a replacement. However, here are the general requirements for a new (first-time) applications



:


Documents:

  1. Original Birth Certificate and a copy: for citizens of Kenya by birth.

  2. Certificate of Registration: for citizens of Kenya by registration.

  3. Original applicant's national identity card and a copy: for adults.

  4. Copy of the recommender's national identity card.

  5. Duly filled Consent Form for minors: If you are applying for a passport for a minor, you will need to provide a duly filled Consent Form signed by both parents and legal guardians.

  6. Copies of parents' national identity cards/ Death certificates where applicable: If you are applying for a passport for a minor, you will need to provide copies of both parents' national identity cards. If one parent is deceased, you will need to provide a death certificate instead.

  7. Original and Copies of parents' birth certificates: If you are applying for a passport for a minor, you will need to provide original and copies of both parents' birth certificates.

  8. Payment of the prescribed fee: The fee for a new passport can be found on the Directorate of Immigration Services website.

 

Additional requirements:

  • Two Current passport size photos: The photos must be in color and meet the following specifications:

  • Size: 50mm x 50mm (2 inches x 2 inches)

  • Background: Plain white background

  • Expression: Neutral expression with mouth closed and eyes open

  • Headwear: No headwear is allowed, unless worn for religious reasons.

  • You must be a Kenyan citizen.

  • You must be at least 18 years old to apply for a passport in your own name.

  • If you are a minor, your parents or legal guardians must apply for the passport on your behalf.

How to apply:

You can apply for a Kenyan passport online or in person. To apply online, you will need to create an eCitizen account and follow the instructions on the website. To apply in person, you will need to visit the nearest immigration office.


Processing time:

The processing time for a new passport is typically 10 working days. However, it may take longer depending on the volume of applications.
